Mike Says

The best era for motorcycle design was mid-'60s to about 1976.  Triumph, Honda, Norton, and BSA were at the top of their game.  The '80s were mostly bad, but things are improving.

SII 109 with treads

Modified 89 with tractor tires

More views of SII 109 with treads

While driving up the A82 through the Central Highlands of Scotland, these two utterly wacky Rovers were parked on the side of the road at a gas station/Rover maintenance shop.

I've seen treads for four-wheelers in pictures before, but those on the 109 appear to be some of the most heavy duty ones ever. The picture doesn't do justice to the sheer amount of metal and fabrication on it. Also, I wasn't quite certain, but it looks like the treads can pivot themselves forward and back.
