Mike Says

Do not ever mimic someone's annoying mannerism as you will most assuredly adopt it.  This is why I stick my tongue out when I think.

A new song written by Geoff Lowrey and myself is now available on mphtower.com.  This is our entry for the American Idol Songwriter contest, and golly, we hope it wins.

It's a semi-parody of the kind of music they like on AI, and we would laugh very very hard if the song gets selected into the top 20.  Musically it's a parody of Jim Steinman (who brought you Meat Loaf and Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart), as well as a hint of Hall and Oates.

Geoff's lyrics cleverly use every cliche he could think of.

Stuff to notice:
- The chorus takes the cliches "Why don't you take a picture?  It'll last longer," and "Love at first sight," and melds them into pure genius.
- The direct reference to Total Eclipse in the bridge
- A lifted Mike Rutherford guitar riff
- The wonderful line, "The feeling that I felt is the feeling that you feel when you know that the feeling you're feeling is real."
- My impression of the guy from Cameo (ooww)

Thanks to Mike Hollinger for additional drum programming, and John Watson for playing piano in the verses.

I hope you will enjoy it by listening to it here:
